Taking Care of Business - Tax Prepping
With all the fun fuss around the holidays, tax season seems to pop up and demand just a little bit more from us. For those of us who were not properly taught about finances in general and worry about going to jail for entering the right information, this time of year can become a little stressful.
I got my first official on the books job during my early college years working at Disney World - my 10-year-old dream come true. I started and ended that job at the beginning of the year and started a new job at my college campus the following semester. Then tax time came the following year and I had no idea what I was doing. I think I opted to go to H&R Block to have them file it. I’m sure they had my best interest in mind, but I wouldn’t have known if something wasn’t right.
Many years later, I decided to take a tax preparation course in order to help myself and help others down the line. While studying and researching, it was recommended that I read Tax-Free Wealth: How to Build Massive Wealth by Permanently Lowering Your Taxes by Tom Wheelwright. The book is about how to use your country’s tax laws to your benefit. Wheelwright tells you how the tax laws work and how they are designed to help reduce your taxes, so that you’re afraid of the tax laws.
I’m just now digging into this book while I study and collect resources to prepare me for tax season at the top of the year and build on the skills that were not passed on to me. I need all the money I can keep so that I can see the world and take my people with me!
