Procrastination | Perception | Persistence

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been writing and jotting down topics, thoughts, and Ideas on how I wanted to start a podcast, a YouTube channel, a blog, to become a social media influencer. I bought a microphone, external memory for my phone, and a portable stand for my phone. I started recording short form videos of me cooking. I pulled up this website to add to it. I downloaded an audio recording program. I was taking steps. Then I stopped moving.

When I was in college, I was known as a record keeper of sorts. I got it honestly as a child. My mother gifted my brother and I these little plastic point-and-shoot cameras one Christmas and I’ve been capturing photos ever since. I always had one of those wind-up disposable cameras until the digital point-and-shoot camera landed in my hands. Shortly after Facebook and YouTube became accessible. I was posting everything - church trips, step shows, concerts, clouds, my hair, food, shoes, flowers, meetings. Then I stopped posting.

At some point, I let my concern for other’s perception of what I was doing take precedence. Instead of staying persistent and refining what I was doing, I stopped. It became harder to start. And when I did start, it became harder to keep going.

One of my favorite YouTubers/influencers is The Queen Po. In a recent video concerning your creativity, she talked about releasing inhibitions that are stopping you from expressing your innovative, creative self. How do you need to get out of your own way? What internal blockages do you need to dismantle? What negative energy do you need to repurpose?

For me, it boiled down to a mindset of lack. I allowed myself to believe that my ideas, opinions, and experiences were not enough. I believed that I wasn’t loud enough or animated enough or “normal” enough to be accepted. My perspective, your perspective, everyone’s perspective is unique. We have to be bold enough to believe in our own greatness and walk in that power, knowing that our individuality is needed for the collective.
