New to the Neighborhood

New to the Neighborhood

One night I got home after dark. There was a lady standing behind a man in a wheelchair at the stop sign at the end of my block. The next day, as I was leaving the neighborhood, the same couple was near that corner and handed something to a young man (late teens, maybe early twenties). No words were exchanged. I believe I witnessed a drug deal. I think it was at this point that my mind accepted or realized that most people around here get along.

A few days later, while checking things out from my window, I watched an older lady (maybe 50s or 60s) slowly hobble down the street pushing something on her walker. A guy driving a truck toward her pulled up right next to her. I thought he would offer to drive her and her items to her destination. His windows were tinted, so I saw what I could see. He rolled down his window. He systematically fumbled with some items in his truck. He held his hands together and put them to the window to meet the lady’s face. Business was handled. He drove off and she kept pushing.

This is going to be an interesting stay.
