Young Adventures: I'm Moving to Florida
“You’re what?!”
“Why!?”
“What’s in Florida”
“Nnoooo!!”
“Yay! Oh my goodness, I’m so happy for you!”
“Take me with you!”
“I wish I could go to Florida!”
“Now I have a place to visit!”
I’d been wanting to live in Florida since I was 10, after a visit to The Mouse’s house. I was one of those brainwashed children with stubborn determination. We had all of the VHS tapes of all of the classics. At some point we started receiving the mail advertisements to plan a trip to The Magical World. I was ecstatic when I found out we were going, did not sleep when we were on our way, and on a high when the whole time we were there. I never forgot the feeling.
“I want to live here!” I said in my mind. One day, it’s going to happen.
One day was in January of 2007. In the fall of 2006, I started college. A clueless freshman, earning the wrong degree, leaving a class in which I only learned that I need to do something else, I saw a poster with The Ears on it. My 10 year old self gave a gasp while my 18 year old self calmly walked over to investigate. It was an announcement for The College Program internship. This was my chance - to work and live at the place that I dreamed of for the last eight years. I signed up quickly, had a phone interview soon after, then received an acceptance letter.
I shared the news with my family, they were excited for me. I shared the news with fellow students and received mostly negative feedback - some said they heard a lot of people had bad experiences. I didn’t care. I’m a fanatic, I signed up, and I’m going.
It was college drop off all over again, except it was much further than the hour and a half drive that I’d done over the last five months. I MOVED TO FLORIDA! Not only that, I was employed by The Mouse - dream come true.
