Young Adventures: Flu Season
It was a month into my fantasy life working at The Mouse’s house. I was in contact with people from EVERYWHERE. Handling money, cleaning messes, touching things - a recipe for germs. It was around my birthday (a little before or after, I can’t remember), I started feeling like crap. I was in a sub-zero air conditioned building sweating. I looked unhappy with life. I was irritable, but I pushed my way through the days until one of the managers told me I needed to go home.
I had the flu. My mother and sister already had intentions to come down and celebrate my birthday. Little did they know, they were coming to tend to me. I don’t think I went to the doctor, but I was sick as a dog. I was at the beginning phase of discovering the woes of the health care system. But I wasn’t doing anything on my own to be well and independent of medical attention. My poor immune system took a blow. I think I slept for 2 days and was better.
I was reminded of this incident while recently babysitting a sick child. He started daycare on a Monday and fell sick the next day. There were so many snot-nosed children and dirty adults at my place of work. I did all that I could to when I realized that I was getting sick, but it was too late.
Build your immune system. Don’t get sick in The Sunshine State, especially while working at The Happiest Place on Earth!
